Lady Lions compete in Summer Basketball Tournament

Even though this was not a normal summer by any means, some regular activities opened back up allowing the Lions to get in some basketball games. On July 30th, our New Deal Lady Lions competed in the Abilene 2A Varsity tournament. They played against some very talented teams such as Eastland, Eula, and Veribest. Our Ladies came out of the tournament 3rd overall, with wins over over Eula, Eastland and Veribest, losing only to Anton. Although they lost to Lady Bulldogs, the game was very close. “I am satisfied with the outcome of the tournament, and I believe this helped the team grow closer,” said Coach Blake Manning
The team traveled to Abilene with Coach Manning and his wife, where they stayed with Coach Manning’s parents, and there they worked on team bonding during the weekend of the tournament.
“I not only enjoyed the trip along with getting 3rd place, but the team-building was also great,” aid junior Shelby Burkhead. “Those teams were good!” she added. Along with Shelby, senior Charlee Whitfield couldn’t agree more, “It was a great team bonding experience, and it felt good to get to play some games.”
